Cheapest published way to keep each app: monthly, yearly or a one-time license. US dollars before tax, prices checked on 13 October 2026.

Price: the biggest gap

Spokenly's local dictation is free forever, with no word cap and no trial clock. Local+ costs $29 once and adds recording styles, settings sync and priority support. Pro, at $99.99 a year, adds Spokenly's hosted cloud models and AI cleanup without needing your own keys.

Wispr Flow's free plan has a weekly word limit. Pro is $15 a month or $144 a year. Over three years, Wispr Flow Pro costs $432; Spokenly Pro costs about $300.

Effort: the other big gap

Wispr Flow is famous for just working. Install it, hold the key, talk. It tidies your words as it types and adjusts to the app you're in.

Spokenly gives you more choices: which local model, whether to bring your own OpenAI or Deepgram key, whether to turn on AI cleanup. That's great if you like control. If you don't, it's more to think about. Pro removes most of that by including the cloud models.

Privacy

Wispr Flow always sends your speech to its servers. You can keep your data out of model training, but there's no offline mode.

Spokenly's free and Local+ plans can run entirely on your device, so nothing leaves your computer. Pro and your own API keys send audio to cloud providers.

Which one should you pick?

Choose Wispr Flow if:

  • You want the most polished result with no setup.
  • You use an Android phone.
  • Your team needs SSO and admin controls.

Choose Spokenly if:

  • You want unlimited free dictation.
  • You want it to work offline.
  • You use Linux, or like choosing your own models.

A third option: SpeechBee

SpeechBee takes the best of both: on-device dictation like Spokenly's free plan, with cleanup and no setup like Wispr Flow. Hold a key, talk, let go, and clean text lands at your cursor. Filler words are removed, and you can teach it names and add snippets. Your voice never leaves your Mac, iPhone or iPad.

It also reads. Select text on your Mac and press a key to hear it in a natural local voice.

Questions

Is Spokenly really free?

Yes. Spokenly says on-device dictation with Whisper and Parakeet models is free forever, with no word caps. You pay for Local+ ($29 once) or Pro ($99.99 a year) only if you want the extras or its cloud models.

Is Spokenly better than Wispr Flow?

It's cheaper and can run offline. Wispr Flow is more polished out of the box and runs on Android. If you want on-device dictation that's also polished with no setup, try SpeechBee.

Does Wispr Flow work offline?

No. Wispr Flow transcribes on its servers. Spokenly works offline with local models, and so does SpeechBee after a one-time model download.

Which is cheaper over three years?

Spokenly, if you use the free or $29 Local+ plan. Spokenly Pro is about $300 over three years and Wispr Flow Pro $432. SpeechBee is $99 once.
