Wispr Flow vs SpeechBee

We make SpeechBee, so read this knowing that. We have tried to make it useful anyway, because the honest answer is that each app is better for a different person. The main question is whether your voice should go to the cloud.

Where your voice goes

This is the real difference. Wispr Flow sends your audio to its servers over an encrypted connection, transcribes it there, and deletes it unless you turn on cloud storage. With context awareness on, it also reads a little text from the app you are dictating into. Wispr holds SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 certification and says it never sells your data.

SpeechBee transcribes on your Mac, iPhone or iPad. Audio is processed in memory, never uploaded and never recorded. It does not look at your screen. Text you select for Read Aloud never leaves the device either. It keeps working on a plane.

If you dictate client, patient or confidential material, on-device processing removes a question you would otherwise have to answer. If you do not, Wispr's design is careful and the cloud gives it room to do more with your words.

What happens to your words

Wispr Flow turns rambling speech into polished writing, smoothing repeated words and false starts. That saves editing, and it also means the final sentence is partly the AI's.

SpeechBee keeps your sentence. It removes "um" and "uh", applies "new paragraph" and spoken punctuation, and spells names from your dictionary. What you said is what lands. Which is better depends on what you are writing.

Platforms

Wispr Flow covers Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android with one account, which SpeechBee cannot match. SpeechBee covers Mac, iPhone and iPad with one plan, and on Mac it needs Apple silicon and macOS 14 or later.

Hi Maya, I'll send the revised proposal tomorrow morning.

Most people read faster than they speak. SpeechBee reads the sentence you selected out loud, while you keep working.

SpeechBee's Read Aloud player on Mac
Select text, press your reading key, listen.

SpeechBee also reads. Select text in any Mac app and press your reading key, and a natural local voice reads it, with controls for speed and skipping. On iPhone and iPad, paste text into the Read tab. Wispr Flow has no text to speech, so you would need a second app for that.

Price

Wispr Flow Pro is $144 a year on annual billing or $180 a year paid monthly, with no lifetime option. Questions

Is SpeechBee a good Wispr Flow alternative?

Yes, if you use Apple devices and want dictation that stays on your device and works offline, with text to speech included. It is not a good alternative if you need Windows or Android, AI polishing, meeting notes or team controls.

Is SpeechBee cheaper than Wispr Flow?

Yes. SpeechBee is $79 a year or $99 once. Wispr Flow Pro is $144 a year on annual billing.

Does Wispr Flow work offline?

No. It transcribes on Wispr's servers, so it needs a connection. SpeechBee works offline after its speech model has downloaded once.
