ElevenReader pricing, Free vs Ultra
ElevenReader, from ElevenLabs, turns your documents and articles into natural audio and adds a large audiobook library. It is free for 10 hours of audio a month. Ultra, at $11 a month or about $99 a year, makes your own listening unlimited. Here is what that means in practice.

How ElevenReader hours work
Hours are spent only when ElevenReader generates new audio from your own content, such as an article, PDF or ePub you upload. How many hours a document uses depends on its length, the voice and your playback speed: listening at 2x spends hours twice as fast. Replaying audio you have already generated is free, and so are the free books and feeds in its library.
Free hours reset every month. Hours that come with a paid plan or a pack roll over and expire after 12 months.
Is Ultra worth it?
If you listen to your own reading for more than about 10 hours a month, or you want premium audiobooks and offline listening on your phone, Ultra is good value next to Speechify Premium at $139 a year. If you listen occasionally, the free plan is unusually generous.

A local option for your own text on a Mac
ElevenReader runs in the cloud, so your documents are uploaded to generate audio. On a Mac you use it through the browser or the Chrome extension.
SpeechBee is the app we make, and it reads differently. Select text in any Mac app, an email, a web page, a PDF, and press a key; a natural voice that runs on your Mac reads it to you. Your text is never uploaded or saved, and reading works offline. It also dictates: hold a key, talk, and your words appear at the cursor. On iPhone and iPad, paste text into the Read tab.
It costs $9 a month, $79 a year or $99 once, with the first 7 days free. It has no audiobook library, no document library and far fewer voices, and voice coverage depends on the language. If audiobooks and a big voice choice matter, ElevenReader is the better pick.
