The free tier runs on Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android. A Pro license can be activated on as many of your devices as you like.
What the free tier really gets you
More than most free plans. You get system-wide dictation with local Whisper models and no word limit, plus meeting recording. What you don't get is the AI layer: the language models that clean up, restyle and reformat your speech through superwhisper's modes. Without Pro, superwhisper is a capable local transcriber.
What Pro adds, and when it's worth it
Pro is for people who want their speech rewritten. Its modes pair a voice model with an AI model, such as GPT, Claude or Llama, to turn rambling speech into a formal email, a casual chat message or structured notes, set per app. Super Mode adapts to what is on your screen. Pro also transcribes audio and video files and translates other languages into English.
If you want exactly what you said, typed at the cursor, the free tier already does it, and Pro adds little. If you want an AI editor between your mouth and the page, Pro is the point of superwhisper.

Monthly Pro adds up to $101.88 a year, and the yearly plan, $84.99, is about two months cheaper. The $249.99 lifetime license pays for itself in about three years against the yearly plan. superwhisper offers a 30-day refund on all plans, so you can try lifetime and still change your mind. Students get 40% off.
Requirements
superwhisper says its offline models run really well only on Apple silicon Macs, and that Intel Macs work best with its cloud models. If you have an Intel Mac and want local dictation, factor that in.
A simpler option, if you don't want AI rewriting
SpeechBee is the app we make, and it is built for the opposite approach. Hold a key, talk, and your own words appear at the cursor with "um"s removed, names corrected from your dictionary, and snippets expanded. There are no AI modes to set up. Speech runs on your device after a one-time download, and SpeechBee also reads selected text aloud.
