Why people look for a Typeless alternative
Monthly billing is expensive. Pro is $12 a month if you pay for a year up front, which is $144. Pay month to month and it is $30 a month, or $360 over a year. Many people try it monthly first, and that is the price they see.
Your voice goes to the cloud. Typeless processes your audio, and some context such as the app you are in and relevant text on screen, on its servers. Its privacy policy says that data is discarded once the text comes back and that nothing is stored unless you turn on history sync. That is a careful design. It still means every sentence leaves your computer, and it means no dictation without a connection.
It rewrites you. Typeless is built to make you sound more polished than you spoke. That saves an editing pass on a rough draft. For notes, messages to people who know how you talk, or anything that has to say exactly what you meant, a paraphrase is something you then have to read for.
The free plan has a ceiling. 8,000 words a week at standard accuracy is generous for light use. Dictate all day and you hit it by Wednesday.

1. SpeechBee
Hi Maya, I'll send the revised proposal tomorrow morning.

Most people read faster than they speak. SpeechBee reads the sentence you selected out loud, while you keep working.

SpeechBee is our app. Hold a key and talk, and your words appear at the cursor in Mail, Slack, Notion, a browser or a code editor. Select text and press your reading key, and a natural voice reads it to you, which is the quickest way to check what you just dictated.
Both happen on the device. The speech model downloads once, about 600 MB, and after that dictation works with Wi-Fi off. Your audio is processed in memory and never uploaded or kept.
It covers most of what people use Typeless for, without the cloud:
- Filler words removed before the text lands, in 61 languages. Say "new paragraph" or "full stop" and it formats as you go.
- Writing modes. Email, Message, Notes, Prompt for AI, Formal and Casual are built in, and you can write your own. Each app can have its own mode, so Mail gets Email and Slack gets Message. Modes run on your Mac with Apple Intelligence on macOS 26, or with your own AI provider when you ask for it. They are off until you turn on AI cleanup, so by default SpeechBee keeps your words as you said them.
- Translation as you speak. Pick a language under Translate To, talk in yours, and the text lands in the other. It uses Apple's on-device translation on macOS 26 and covers 20 languages.
- A dictionary and snippets. Fix a misheard name once. Say "booking link" and your full calendar URL appears.
- 25 languages with the default model, and up to 99 with the optional Whisper model.
- An iPhone and iPad keyboard, included in the same purchase.
It needs an Apple silicon Mac with macOS 14 or later. The first week is free with every feature. After that it is $9 a month, $79 a year, or $99 once, with a 30-day money-back guarantee.
2. Wispr Flow
Wispr Flow is the app Typeless is most often compared with, and the closest swap. It cleans up speech as you talk, adapts tone to the app, and works on Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android. It adds team features such as a shared dictionary, SSO and a HIPAA agreement, and a Notetaker for meetings.
Pro is $15 a month or $144 a year. The free plan gives 2,000 words a week on desktop. Like Typeless, it transcribes on its own servers.
3. Willow
Willow is cloud AI dictation for Mac, Windows and iPhone with a free plan that has no word cap. Basic gives unlimited dictation on its smaller model and 20 uses a week of Scribe, its AI writing feature. Pro is $15 a month or $12 a month billed yearly, with the better model and memory of your writing style.
Willow says Privacy Mode is on by default and audio is discarded after processing. It also lists an offline mode that runs on your device.
4. superwhisper
superwhisper lets you build the AI rewriting yourself. You create modes, pick the voice model and the language model behind each, and tie them to apps. Local Whisper models run offline; cloud models are there for more polish. It also transcribes files and meetings.
The free tier includes unlimited local Whisper models. Pro is $8.49 a month, $84.99 a year, or $249.99 once, on Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android.
5. Spokenly
Spokenly makes free the point. Local Whisper and Parakeet models are free with no word cap and no account, and a local-only mode blocks network requests. You can bring your own OpenAI, Deepgram or Groq key. Local+ is $29 once for extras such as recording styles and settings sync. Pro is $99.99 a year and adds managed cloud models and AI cleanup. It runs on Mac, Windows, Linux and iPhone; its site says Android is not available yet.
6. Aqua Voice
Aqua is fast cloud dictation aimed at people who write prompts and code. It refines words as you speak and reads what is on screen to get names and syntax right. Pro is $8 a month on annual billing or $10 month to month, and students get 70% off. The free plan includes 1,000 words.
Its privacy policy says it may store transcripts to improve the product unless you turn on Privacy Mode.
7. Glaido
Glaido is cloud dictation with an Agent mode that acts on what you say, not just types it. Basic is free with 2,000 words a week, works in any app, and includes AI auto-edits and Agent mode. Pro is $17 a month billed yearly, with unlimited words. Enterprise adds SSO and SAML.
8. Apple Dictation
Apple Dictation is free and already on your Mac. Press the Microphone key or the Dictation shortcut, talk, and text appears. Keyboard settings shows whether dictation is processed on the Mac or sent to Apple.
It has no custom dictionary, no snippets and no filler-word cleanup, and it does not rewrite anything.
When Typeless is still the right call
- You work on Linux or Android as well as a Mac.
- You want to edit or question highlighted text by voice.
- You mostly dictate rough first drafts and want them rewritten without lifting a finger.
- You need team billing with SSO, SCIM or a HIPAA agreement.
How we put this list together
We read each app's own pricing, product and privacy pages in October 2026 and linked them below. We did not run an accuracy test, so there is no "most accurate" claim here. Prices change and taxes vary, so check the vendor's page before you buy. SpeechBee is first because it is ours. After that, the order follows how many Typeless users each app is likely to suit.
