How much Dragon costs in 2026

What Dragon costs now

Because Nuance does not publish a price, what you pay depends on the seller and on whether you buy a single license, a volume license or an older version. Be careful with very cheap listings of old versions: they may not run on current Windows or get support.

Why there is no single Dragon price any more

Dragon used to come in consumer editions with list prices, such as Home and Premium. Nuance now sells professional products only: Dragon Professional, Dragon Legal, Dragon Law Enforcement, their cloud "Anywhere" versions, and the Dragon Anywhere Mobile app, largely through resellers and its sales team. Microsoft bought Nuance in 2022.

For buyers, that means two things. You will not find an official checkout price, and the desktop product is aimed at professionals on Windows.

Dragon on a Mac

You cannot buy a current version of Dragon for macOS. Dragon Anywhere Mobile runs on iPhone, but it is a separate mobile dictation app, not a Mac app. Some people run Dragon Professional for Windows on a Mac through Windows virtualisation, but Dragon then works only inside Windows apps, not in your Mac apps.

What Dragon users usually miss on a Mac is two different jobs:

• Dictation: speaking text into any app quickly and accurately, with your own vocabulary.
• Voice control: opening apps, clicking buttons and editing by voice.

For voice control, macOS has Voice Control built in and free. For dictation, Apple Dictation is free, and dedicated apps go further. Our guide to Dragon alternatives for Mac sorts out which tool replaces which part.

A Mac dictation app at a fraction of the price

SpeechBee is the app we make. Hold a key, talk, and your words appear at the cursor in any Mac app, with filler words removed, names and terms corrected from your dictionary, and snippets expanded from short spoken phrases. Recognition runs on your device after a one-time download, so it works offline and your voice is not uploaded. Select text, and SpeechBee reads it back to you, which helps with proofreading.

It costs $9 a month, $79 a year or $99 once, with the first 7 days free, and one plan covers Mac, iPhone and iPad. It needs an Apple silicon Mac with macOS 14 or later. It does not control your Mac by voice, and it has no medical vocabulary packs; for clicking and navigating, pair it with macOS Voice Control.
