Different jobs

MacWhisper is a transcription studio. Drag in an interview, lecture or podcast and get a transcript with speakers labelled. Export subtitles or documents. It can also record Zoom, Teams and Webex calls in the background, with no bot joining. Dictation is there too, but it's not the headline.

VoiceInk is a dictation app. Press a shortcut, talk, and your words appear in whatever app you're in. It's lean and cheap, and its source code is public.

Price

Both are one-time purchases, which is rare in this category. VoiceInk is $25 for one Mac, $39 for two and $49 for three, with lifetime updates and a 14-day refund. MacWhisper Pro is €65 once, with cheaper per-licence packs for teams. Both let you try before you buy.

Privacy

Both can transcribe entirely on your Mac, so your audio doesn't have to leave it. MacWhisper also lets you plug in cloud services such as OpenAI, Deepgram or ElevenLabs if you choose to.
