Typeless review

Typeless is AI dictation that does not just type what you said. It rewrites it: drops the ums, keeps only your final version when you change your mind, and adjusts the tone to the app. Here is what it does, what it costs, where your voice goes, and when another app fits better.

What Typeless is

Typeless is a voice keyboard for your computer and phone. Press its shortcut in any app, talk, and text appears. The difference from plain dictation is an AI step in the cloud that rewrites what you said before it lands. It runs on Mac, Windows, Linux, iPhone and Android.

What it does well

It edits for you. Fillers and repetition disappear. If you change your mind halfway through a sentence, it keeps the corrected version. Spoken lists come out as formatted lists. For people who think out loud, that is most of the editing done.

Tone per app. You can set a casual tone for Slack and a formal one for email, and it switches by itself.

More than dictation. It translates as you speak, and with text selected you can say "make this shorter" or ask a question about it.

The free plan is real. It includes every writing feature, with a limit of 8,000 words a week at standard accuracy. That is enough to find out whether you like being rewritten.

It is everywhere. Five platforms, including Linux, which most dictation apps skip.

Where it falls short

Your voice always goes to the cloud. Typeless processes audio, plus context such as the app you are in and relevant text on screen, on its servers. Its privacy policy says this data is discarded once the result comes back and that nothing is stored unless you turn on history cloud sync. It also says it may share data with third-party AI providers for some features. It is a careful policy for a cloud product, but no setting keeps your voice on your computer.

No connection, no dictation. On a plane or on bad Wi-Fi, it stops working.

Rewriting is not always what you want. Notes, quotes, code comments and messages to people who know how you talk can come out sounding like someone else. Then you are reading for what the AI changed.

Monthly billing is steep. $30 a month adds up to $360 a year.

Questions

How much does Typeless cost?

Typeless Pro is $12 a month billed yearly ($144 a year) or $30 a month billed monthly. The free plan includes 8,000 words a week. Enterprise is priced on request.

Is Typeless free?

Yes, up to 8,000 words a week with standard accuracy. Every writing feature is included on the free plan.

Does Typeless work offline?

No. Typeless processes speech in the cloud, so it needs an internet connection.

Is Typeless private?

Its privacy policy says audio and on-screen context are processed in real time and discarded once the text is returned, with history kept on your device unless you turn on cloud sync. Your voice still leaves your computer for every dictation.

Is Typeless worth it?

If you want AI to rewrite rough speech into polished text and you use several platforms, the yearly plan is fair value. If you want private or offline dictation, or your own words kept, a local app fits better.
