Wispr Flow vs VoiceInk

People often move from Wispr Flow to VoiceInk to stop paying every month. The trade is real both ways: VoiceInk is far cheaper and keeps your audio on your Mac, and Wispr Flow works on more devices with less to set up.

Price: the gap is large

Wispr Flow Pro is $15 a month, or $144 a year. After three years on yearly billing that is $432, and it keeps going. VoiceInk is $25 once for one Mac, $39 for two, $49 for three, with lifetime updates.

Wispr Flow's free plan is the full product with a weekly cap of 2,000 words on desktop. If you dictate less than that, it costs nothing. Most people who dictate daily pass it quickly.

Privacy: cloud or on your Mac

Wispr Flow sends your audio to its servers to be transcribed, on every plan. It deletes the audio afterwards unless you turn on cloud storage, and there is no offline mode.

VoiceInk transcribes with local models on your Mac, so your audio never has to leave it and dictation works without a connection. Its source code is public.

Everyday feel

Wispr Flow is the easier start. Install it, sign in, hold the key and talk. Its models are tuned for clean, formatted text with little to configure, and it uses context from the app you are in.

VoiceInk takes a few more minutes: you pick and download a local model. After that it is just as quick to use, and its modes can turn a spoken ramble into a tidy email or a structured note. It also edits selected text by voice.

Platforms

This is often what decides it. Wispr Flow runs on Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android with one account. VoiceInk is a Mac app for Apple silicon with an iPhone app, and nothing for Windows or Android.

Which one should you pick?

Choose Wispr Flow if:

  • You switch between a Mac and a Windows PC, or dictate on Android.
  • You want it to work well with almost no setup.
  • Your team needs shared vocabulary, SSO or HIPAA paperwork.

Choose VoiceInk if:

  • You dictate on an Apple silicon Mac.
  • You want your audio to stay on your Mac, and dictation to work offline.
  • You would rather pay $25 once than $144 every year.

A third option: SpeechBee

SpeechBee is our own app, and every fact here is on our homepage. Like VoiceInk, it transcribes on your device, and dictation keeps working with Wi-Fi off once the model has downloaded. Like Wispr Flow, it works with almost no setup. Hold a key, talk, let go, and the text appears at the cursor with the filler words gone.

It also reads. Select text on your Mac and press a key, and a natural local voice reads it aloud. Neither Wispr Flow nor VoiceInk does that. One plan covers your Mac, iPhone and iPad.

Questions

Is VoiceInk a good Wispr Flow alternative?

Much cheaper. VoiceInk is $25 once for one Mac. Wispr Flow Pro is $15 a month or $144 a year, which is $432 over three years.

Does Wispr Flow work offline?

No. Wispr Flow transcribes on its servers, so it needs a connection. VoiceInk and SpeechBee transcribe on your device and work offline.

Does VoiceInk work on Windows?

No. VoiceInk needs an Apple silicon Mac with macOS 14.4 or later, and has an iPhone app. Wispr Flow runs on Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android.
