What the free plan really gets you
Almost everything most people need. Spokenly's free plan runs Whisper and Parakeet speech models on your own device with no word cap and no account, and works completely offline. If you want cloud transcription, you can plug in your own key from OpenAI, Deepgram, Groq and others, pay those providers directly, and Spokenly adds nothing on top.
Local+ or Pro?
Local+ is a one-time $19 for people who stay local: it adds recording styles, settings sync and priority support. Note that it works in the apps downloaded from spokenly.app, not in the App Store versions for Mac and iPhone.
Pro is for people who want cloud accuracy without managing keys. It includes premium cloud models such as GPT-4o Transcribe, Deepgram Nova 3 and Soniox, plus hosted AI cleanup and Agent Mode. It is billed yearly at $99.99, which Spokenly says gives you two months free compared with paying monthly.
Refunds and discounts
Pro bought on spokenly.app has a 14-day money-back guarantee; App Store purchases are refunded through Apple. Verified students get 50% off Pro. You can cancel at any time and keep Pro until the end of the paid period.
How SpeechBee compares
SpeechBee is the app we make. Like Spokenly's free plan, it transcribes on your device and works offline. The differences are in what comes with it:
- Read Aloud. Select text in any Mac app, press a key, and a natural local voice reads it to you. Spokenly does not read text aloud.
- Built-in cleanup without keys. SpeechBee removes filler words like "um" in 61 languages on Mac, and adds a dictionary and snippets that can sync privately through your iCloud.
- No accounts or keys to manage. Optional AI cleanup is off by default.
SpeechBee costs $9 a month, $79 a year or $99 once, with the first 7 days free, for Mac, iPhone and iPad. If free local dictation is all you need, or you use Windows or Linux, Spokenly's free plan is the better deal, and we say so in Spokenly vs SpeechBee.
