# Wispr Flow vs superwhisper

Both put your words at the cursor in any app. Wispr Flow does it in the cloud with almost no setup. superwhisper lets you choose local or cloud models and tune everything. That one difference decides most of what follows.

By the SpeechBee team. Prices checked on 12 October 2026.

> ### The short answer
>
> - **Pick Wispr Flow** if you want dictation that works well the moment you install it, across Mac, Windows and Android, or your team needs shared vocabulary and SSO.
> - **Pick superwhisper** if you want local models that work offline, a lower price, a lifetime license, and modes you can tune per app.
> - **Pick neither** if what you want is simple, private dictation on a Mac plus text read aloud. That is [SpeechBee](#a-third-option-speechbee), which we make.

## Price: superwhisper is cheaper, and you can buy it once

superwhisper Pro costs a little over half of Wispr Flow Pro. On yearly billing it is $84.99 against $144. Wispr Flow has no one-time option. superwhisper's lifetime license is $249.99, which pays for itself against Wispr's yearly plan in under two years.

The free plans differ in kind. Wispr Flow's free plan is the full product with a weekly word cap. superwhisper's free tier has no cap on its local Whisper models, but the Pro features, such as cloud models, file transcription and your own API keys, are paid.

## Privacy: the biggest real difference

With Wispr Flow, your audio goes to Wispr's servers to be transcribed, then is deleted unless you turn on cloud storage. That is how it works on every plan. Wispr adds controls on top, such as opting out of model training and choosing what history stays on your device.

superwhisper can transcribe on your Mac with local models, so your audio never has to leave it. You can also pick a cloud model, and then your words go to that provider. The choice is yours per mode, which is useful and also something to keep track of. superwhisper notes that local models run best on Apple silicon, and points Intel Mac owners to cloud models.

## Everyday feel

Wispr Flow is the easier app. You install it, hold the key, talk, and it formats and cleans up your words with little to configure. If you never want to open settings, that matters.

superwhisper rewards tinkering. You can build a mode for email that writes formally, one for Slack that stays casual, and one for code, then tie each to an app. You choose the voice model and the language model behind each. Its Super Mode reads your screen for context. People who like that kind of control love it. People who do not can find it a lot.

## Meetings, files and teams

Both now record meetings. Wispr's Notetaker runs on Mac and Windows without a bot joining your call and has a weekly meeting limit on the free plan. superwhisper records and summarises meetings and can also transcribe audio and video files you drop in on Pro, which Wispr Flow does not do.

For teams, Wispr Flow is further along. Shared dictionaries and snippets, SSO and SCIM, HIPAA enforcement with a signed BAA, and admin usage reports are all on its price list. superwhisper offers an Enterprise plan with SOC 2 Type II, central billing and model access control, priced on request.

## Which one should you pick?

Choose **Wispr Flow** if:

- You want it to just work, with almost nothing to set up.
- You move between a Mac and a Windows PC, or dictate on Android.
- Your company needs shared vocabulary, SSO, or HIPAA paperwork.

Choose **superwhisper** if:

- You want dictation to work offline, or your audio to stay on your Mac.
- You would rather pay $84.99 a year, or once, than $144 every year.
- You enjoy setting up modes and choosing models for different jobs.
- You also transcribe recordings and video.

## A third option: SpeechBee

We make SpeechBee, so take this section as a pitch, with the facts checkable on [our homepage](https://speechbee.app/). It sits between the two. Like superwhisper's local models, SpeechBee transcribes on your device, and dictation keeps working with Wi-Fi off once the model has downloaded. Like Wispr Flow, it works with almost no setup. Hold a key, talk, let go, and the text appears at the cursor with the filler words gone.

It also reads. Select text on your Mac and press a key, and a local voice reads it aloud. Neither Wispr Flow nor superwhisper does that.

SpeechBee runs on Apple silicon Macs, iPhone and iPad, not Windows or Android. It has no meeting recorder or team plan. It costs $9 a month, $79 a year, or $99 once, with the first 7 days free and every feature on every plan.

## Questions

### Is superwhisper better than Wispr Flow?

It depends on what you value. superwhisper is cheaper, works offline with local models, sells a lifetime license and is far more configurable. Wispr Flow is simpler to use and stronger for teams. Neither is better for everyone.

### Is superwhisper cheaper than Wispr Flow?

Yes. superwhisper Pro is $8.49 a month or $84.99 a year. Wispr Flow Pro is $15 a month or $144 a year. superwhisper also has a $249.99 lifetime license, and Wispr Flow has no one-time option.

### Does Wispr Flow work offline?

No. Wispr Flow sends your audio to its servers to transcribe it, so it needs a connection. superwhisper and SpeechBee can both transcribe on your Mac without one.

### Does superwhisper work on Windows and iPhone?

Yes. superwhisper lists apps for Mac, Windows, iOS and Android, and one Pro license can be activated on as many of your devices as you like.

### Which is more private, Wispr Flow or superwhisper?

superwhisper, when you use its local models, because your audio stays on your Mac. With a cloud model selected, your words go to that model's provider. Wispr Flow always processes audio on its servers, though it deletes the audio after transcription unless you enable cloud storage.
