Monologue and SpeechBee are both dictation apps made for Apple devices rather than ported to them. They split on price, on what comes in the box besides dictation, and on who already pays for them without knowing it: Monologue is part of an Every subscription.

## Price, and the Every question

Monologue Pro is $15 a month, or $144 a year if you pay up front, which is $12 a month. If you subscribe to Every, the company behind Monologue, Pro is already included. In that case Monologue costs you nothing extra, and that is hard to beat.

If you do not, SpeechBee is $79 a year, $9 a month, or $99 once. Over three years, Monologue Pro on yearly billing is $432. SpeechBee Lifetime stays at $99.

## The trial

Monologue's trial is measured in usage: 1,000 dictation words and 10 recorded notes. A few long emails use that up. SpeechBee's trial is measured in time: seven days of everything, with no word count, so you can try it on a full working week.

## What SpeechBee does that Monologue does not

Read Aloud. Select text in any Mac app and press your reading key, and a natural voice reads it to you, on your Mac. Dictating and then listening back is the quickest way we know to catch a wrong word before you hit send.

SpeechBee also has a dictionary for names it mishears, snippets that type a long text from a short phrase, filler words removed in 61 languages, and a lifetime price.

## What Monologue does that SpeechBee does not

Recorded voice notes, meeting notes, and an Apple Watch app. And if you are an Every subscriber, it is already paid for.
